The Strummin’ Foundation launched a new beginners’ guitar course in July 2019 called Back to Basics by Strummin’. The foundation seeks to create resources and training for individuals wishing to start learning the guitar.
The aim of the course was to introduce guitar to newbies. A small team of guitar teachers worked together to create a step-by-step course on guitar basics: posture; basic chords; and strum patterns. This material is delivered to a small class of aspiring guitarists, of all ages, with weekly hands-on sessions to show and guide the students, as well guidance on how to practice at home. The course also provides some insight into appreciation of various styles and techniques of guitar playing, to provide inspiration to the attendendees of what is the preferred style. Finally, the course aims to prepare complete new beginners for the possiblity of joining the Strummin’ guitarists cast in upcoming Strummin’ concert, enabling them to join the cast with some ground knowledge and following along in the rehearsals.
First session of the course ran from July to September 2019. Twenty new guitarists successfully completed the course and performed in front of friends and family at Carolina’s Cafe in Qawra in October 2019.

With its very first edition being held in November 2002, Strummin’ has developed to become one of Malta’s most awaited charity concerts, well known for their rock tunes and timeless classics (while still giving it that little poppy edge by choosing a song or two which everyone is playing on their radios).
