A new foundation for music: Strummin’ Foundation

Music lovers and aficionados have been following the Strummin’ journey ever since its inception 18 years ago, and the annual charity concert that brings together guitarists, singers and musicians is one of Malta’s most awaited events. However, few know that originally Strummin’ began as a small project. Over time the project has grown and has become a staple in Malta’s musical calendar whilst contributing to a countless number of local charities and humanitarian projects. This has led to a group of like-minded individuals and friends to take the Strummin’ project to a new level, and they are now ready to launch the Strummin’ Foundation.

The Foundation aims to be more than just an annual show producer. It is committed to focus on musical outreach by engaging young people. In doing so it seeks to empower and help them develop their talents and skills. In a nutshell, Strummin’ Foundation has been established to encourage young people to express their creativity through music, provide educational programmes and resources to facilitate this, create an environment that promotes collaboration and networking between musicians, build projects that allow young people to develop skills and gain new experiences, and continue raising funds for humanitarian projects.

On Friday 10th May the Foundation held its first gathering for the Strummin’ community, and the plans for the coming two years were announced. Strummin’ Foundation will launch its first educational project this summer with the help of an enthusiastic group of guitar lovers and volunteers, to develop content and teach guitar to absolute beginners of all ages. This will make the annual Strummin’ charity concert more accessible to young people, since the basic skills will be provided through this programme. The next Strummin’ charity concert will be held in 2020. In the run-up to the concert,  we are supporting musicians to collaborate, network and create rockin’ arrangements for intermediate and higher-level guitarists to be used in the show… The team have set the wheels in motion and are already hard at work to ensure that the charity event will be even bigger and better than previous editions.

Past strummers might ask whether they will be preparing for a concert in 2019. The Foundation will not be putting up the traditional charity show this year; however, this does not mean that you will not see them on a stage. Strummin’ Foundation is working on new projects to put together  performances with a difference. New creative pieces, centred around guitarists and musicians, are being developed for shows in 2019 and 2020. Curious? Strummin’ Foundation is also looking to set up key partnerships with corporate sponsors, as well as recruiting enthusiastic volunteers to help the Founders and Board of Administrators execute their vision and bring the aims of the Foundation to life.
